FIREWORKS are illegal in BVWCA
Posted on Dec 23rd, 2025

REMINDER:  It is illegal to use, sell or possess most consumer fireworks, including sparklers, in Houston and incorporated areas of Harris County.

Discharging fireworks on your property or city streets, whether your rent or own, is a violation of city law.

Violators face potential fines of up to $2K per firework if prosecuted, and further consequences if your fireworks damage the property or cause personal injury to your neighbors.

Insurance companies often decline to cover damages to a homeowner’s personal property caused by illegal fireworks usage.

So, while it can be tempting to set off your own personal pyrotechnics display this holiday season, please remember:

  • Fireworks are basically mini-explosives posing significant health and property hazards including:
    • FIRES – stray embers can easily ignite trees and dry debris found on roofs and in yards.
    • BODILY INJURIES – can range from burns, to lacerations, and yes, even death.
    • AIR QUALITY – RESPIRATORY ISSUES – that lingering smell is polluted air filled with metal particulates.
    • ANIMAL DISTRESS – pets and wildlife can panic, harming themselves in an attempt to hide.
  • PLEASE RESPECT YOUR NEIGHBORS.  Many of today’s fireworks generate 120+ decibels, well above the allowed limit for Houston residential areas. Those vibrations and sonic booms travel into homes rattling the walls and is extremely stressful to those with PTSD or sound sensitivities, especially if endured for hours at a time.
While we encourage residents to celebrate the season, please be considerate of shared spaces and noise levels, ensuring your festivities do not negatively impact your neighbors.
