Trail Safety - Letter from the Security Committee
Posted on Jul 22nd, 2026
A reminder to residents on trail safety.
from the Security Committee
Dear Residents,
Our community’s hike and bike trails are a wonderful amenity that many of us enjoy for walking, exercising, and spending time outdoors. However, we want to remind everyone to remain alert and take appropriate precautions while using the trails.
Unfortunately, a resident was recently attacked and robbed while on one of our trails last month. While incidents like this are very uncommon, we want to encourage everyone to prioritize personal safety and be mindful of their surroundings.
Please consider the following safety tips when using the trails:
- Walk with a friend or in a group whenever possible.
- There is safety in numbers.
- Stay aware of your surroundings.
- Avoid distractions such as looking down at your phone or wearing headphones at a volume that prevents you from hearing what is happening around you.
- Carry a personal safety device, such as pepper spray, if you feel comfortable doing so.
- Be sure you understand how to use it properly and keep it accessible.
- Use the trails during daylight hours when possible.
- Trust your instincts.
- If something feels unsafe, leave the area and seek assistance.
- Call 911 if you are in immediate danger.
- Report suspicious activity to:
- safetycommittee@braeburnvalleywest.com
- HPD Non-Emergency: 832.394.4700
We want everyone to continue enjoying these beautiful trails while taking reasonable steps to protect themselves. Please look out for one another and report any suspicious activity.
Thank you for helping keep our community safe.
